Lindsay, Murphy Help Esperanza Sink Edison

Freshman Adrienne Lindsay and sophomore Carly Murphy scored their first goals of the season to help 10th-ranked Esperanza to a 2-1 victory over No. 6 Edison in Sunset League girls’ soccer at Edison Thursday.

Murphy scored the winner with seven minutes left in the game. Senior Kristina Furniss scored for Edison (15-5-2, 5-2-1).

Esperanza is 10-8-5, 4-4.

In another Sunset League game:

Huntington Beach 3, Marina 2--Kathy Shea scored twice for Huntington Beach (8-4-2, 3-4-1).

In the Century League:

Canyon 2, Foothill 0--Emily Osterfeld, off an assist by Jamie Hacker, scored early in the second half and Rebekah Anderson scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute for Canyon. Jennifer Monson had 13 saves for Canyon (12-6-3, 6-1-1). Foothill is 8-11-2, 4-3-1.

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 4, Fullerton 2 (OT)--Christie Casas scored twice in the second half for Fullerton to tie it, 2-2, but Melissa Jenkins and Tina Fodor put it away in overtime for the host Raiders (13-6-3, 6-0-2). Fullerton is 2-12-1, 2-5-1.

In the Golden West League:

Ocean View 2, Westminster 0--Erin Droeger scored the game-winner midway through the second half for the visiting Seahawks (11-8-4, 6-1-1). Allison Nofziger scored later on a penalty kick.

Westminster is 4-9-5 2-3-3.

Rosary 7, Tustin 0--Rosary’s Tymarie Novak, Katie Lennon and Shauna Rech each scored two goals. Novak, a senior, has 21 goals this season for Rosary (12-5-2, 6-1-1).

Saddleback 1, Santa Ana 0--Janet Antunez scored with five minutes remaining in the game and goalkeeper Erika Suazo made five saves for Saddleback (7-3-5, 3-3-2).

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 4, Magnolia 0--Leonore Barajas scored two first-half goals for Anaheim (8-4-2, 4-2-2).

Valencia 9, Western 1--Lauren Jacobs, Alejandra Nunez and Jenner Yamane each scored two goals for Valencia (18-4, 8-0).

In the Olympic League:

Brethren Christian 1, Calvary Chapel 0--Cori Simpson scored in the first half for visiting Brethren Christian (5-3-7, 3-2-4).

In the Pacific Coast League:

No. 7 Laguna Hills 2, Costa Mesa 0--Melissa Pinkart scored both goals for the Hawks (19-2-2, 6-0-2).

Aliso Niguel 3, University 0--Lauren Birkinshaw scored Aliso Niguel’s first goal with two minutes remaining in the first half.

Kim Divine made a steal on the right side, carried the ball downfield and passed to Birkinshaw in the middle. Birkinshaw volleyed it in.

Amanda Vanderlan and Michelle Basanda played very strong in the back, only giving up two shots.

Aliso Niguel (12-2-4, 6-0-2) will host Laguna Hills for the league title Tuesday.

In the Sea View League:

No. 3 Woodbridge 4, Irvine 2--Maribel Garcia scored two goals for Woodbridge (13-2-6, 4-0-4), and teammates Lauren Schick and Ashley Swanson each converted a penalty kick to make it 4-2.

Corona del Mar 2, Newport Harbor 1--Natalia Dorfman opened the scoring for Corona del Mar (11-4-1, 3-4-1) with a goal off a throw-in by Meghan Bryan.

Newport Harbor’s Devon Burlingham tied it with a similar goal off a throw-in by Brooke Flamson.

With four minutes remaining of the second half, Allison Harvey scored the game-winner off a Molly O’Meara corner kick.

Newport Harbor is 9-10-3, 3-4-1.

In the South Coast League:

No. 1 Capistrano Valley 1, Dana Hills 0--Lindsay Greco scored in the second half for the Cougars (14-1-3, 5-1-1), who bounced back after losing to No. 9 Mater Dei, 1-0, Tuesday.

No. 5 Mission Viejo 4, No. 9 Mater Dei 0--Mission Viejo had no trouble with host Mater Dei, scoring two goals in each half. Jennifer Theis scored twice for Mission Viejo (14-5-4, 4-1-3), which moved into second place.

Hannah Cochran had four saves. Mater Dei is 11-4-4, 3-2-3.

In Freeway League boys’ soccer:

Buena Park 1, Troy 0--Ricard Torres scored off a 10-yard shot that deflected into the goal off a defender to help the Coyotes clinch the school’s first Freeway League boys’ soccer championship.

Goalkeeper Miguel Gaitan made five saves in his fourth league shutout.

Buena Park is 13-7-1, 7-0-1.

Sunny Hills 2, La Habra 1--Jared Bruce scored in the 77th minute on a breakaway to lift Sunny Hills (3-15-2, 1-6-1). Juan Quezada tied the score for the Lancers in the 46th minute. Angel Quintero scored in the first half for La Habra (4-10-4, 2-5-1).

Sonora 4, Fullerton 1--Scott White scored two goals and Matt McAlister and Nazario Miramontes each scored one for Sonora (7-5-4, 3-1-4). Felipe Uribe made three saves and Adam Jackson made one for the Raiders.
