BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP
Sylmar 54, North Hollywood 51--Dallas Townsend’s steal of an inbounds pass with three seconds to play and ensuing free throw secured the Spartans’ East Valley League victory at North Hollywood.
T.K. Reed made a layup with 25 seconds to play to give Sylmar (20-5, 7-1) a 51-49 lead.
Townsend had 11 points and 18 rebounds for Sylmar, Jeremiah Turner added 14 points and 13 rebounds, and George Wrighster had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Jason McKissick had 13 points for North Hollywood (12-10, 4-4).
Grant 66, Canoga Park 55--Gilbert Arenas was on the bench for disciplinary reasons in the first half, but the Lancers (18-5, 6-2) did not falter, claiming a 30-27 halftime lead that they would not relinquish in an East Valley League game at Grant.
Arenas scored 17 points and Rashad Winston had 14, including four three-pointers.
El Camino Real 67, Granada Hills 66--The Highlanders squandered a 13-point halftime lead and wasted a 30-point effort by Walter Burch that included eight three-point baskets in a North Valley League loss at El Camino Real.
Burch sank his final three-pointer as time expired to leave Granada Hills (3-18, 1-7) one point short.
Brandon Robertson scored 20 points for the Conquistadores (10-12, 4-4), and Alonzo Parks had 20 for the Highlanders.
Chatsworth 44, Kennedy 39--The Chancellors pulled away in the fourth quarter of a West Valley League game at Kennedy. Ronald Ruffin scored 12 points for Chatsworth (14-5, 6-2).
Nana Gbewonyo had eight points and 11 rebounds for Kennedy (13-8, 5-3). Dax Grooms added 13 points.
Chaminade 49, St. Francis 40--Scott Borchart scored 16 of his 25 points in the first half for the No. 2-ranked Eagles (20-3, 9-1) in a Mission League victory at St. Francis.
Simi Valley 110, Royal 68--Shaun Michel of Simi Valley set a school record with 22 assists and the Pioneers set another with 36 assists in a Marmonte League game at Royal.
Rafael Berumen and Brett Michel each scored 27 points for the Pioneers (23-2, 10-0), ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times.
Newbury Park 47, Thousand Oaks 44--Brian Polen scored six of his 11 points in the fourth quarter, and the Panthers rallied for a Marmonte League victory at Newbury Park. Brian Bobik had 16 points and Polen added 14 rebounds for Newbury Park (16-5, 8-2).
Westlake 59, Moorpark 55--Jake DeGennaro hit four three-point shots and finished with 22 points for Westlake in a Marmonte League victory at Moorpark.
Brian Hunter had four three-pointers and Shawn Corkery hit three for the Musketeers (11-13, 2-8).
Harvard-Westlake 63, Notre Dame 54--Russell Lakey and Todd Kurihara both found their shot for the Wolverines (13-11, 6-4) in the second half of a Mission League victory at Notre Dame (8-17, 2-9).
Lakey scored 18 of his 21 points--including four three-pointers--in the second half. Kurihara had 10 of his 15 points in the third quarter.
Cody Pearson scored 18 points and Chris Williams had 12 points and 21 rebounds for the Knights.
Santa Clara 72, Santa Paula 51--B.J. Ward had 19 points and Nick Jones had 15 first-quarter points for Santa Clara (19-3, 4-2) before he was ejected early in the second after being assessed two technical fouls in the Frontier League game at Santa Paula (14-11, 4-3).
Ventura 78, Camarillo 59--Jeff Staniland scored 20 of his 30 points for the Cougars (15-9) in the first half of a nonleague victory at Camarillo. Gary Peterson contributed 12 points for Ventura.
