Moorpark Overruns Marmonte With 66-36 Victory at Westlake

Tougher league, same result.

Moorpark High moved out of the Frontier League into the highly competitive Marmonte League this season but still clinched its fourth consecutive league title after defeating Westlake, 66-36, Friday night at Westlake.

Damaris Hinojosa had 33 points, 14 rebounds, 10 steals and six assists for the Musketeers (21-1, 10-0), who added their first Marmonte championship on the heels of three consecutive Frontier League titles.

“I’m not surprised [that we have done so well],” said Moorpark Coach Brent Milburn, whose team is ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times. “We played Marmonte teams when we were in the Frontier and did well.”

Thousand Oaks 41, Newbury Park 34--Jennifer Carver scored 10 of her 14 points in the second quarter when Thousand Oaks (12-9, 4-5) took control of the Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.

The Lancers outscored Newbury Park, 17-5, in the second period, breaking open a one-point game. Carver had 13 points in the first half.

Newbury Park (10-11, 4-6) played without starting forward Jamie Dirksing, who suffered a sprained ankle in the Panthers’ last game against Moorpark. Bridget Harris scored 10 points to lead the Panthers.

Crescenta Valley 50, Glendale 36--Kristie Umemoto scored 20 points and had five steals, and the Falcons had 16 steals overall in a Pacific League victory at Glendale.

Sinnamonn Garrett had 16 points and six steals for No. 2-ranked Crescenta Valley (15-6, 4-4).

Hart 51, Burroughs 32--Tiana Jameson had 14 points as the Indians won their 46th consecutive Foothill League game at Burroughs.

Hart (14-8, 8-0), which has won 70 of its last 71 league games, clinched its seventh consecutive Foothill title. Briana Kentfield added 11 points and Christina Sanchez had 10 for the Indians.

North Hollywood 55, Van Nuys 27--Markia Derby had 14 points in the first half and finished with 19 points and eight rebounds for No. 6-ranked North Hollywood (18-5, 8-0) in a Mid-Valley League game at Van Nuys.

Tashean Thomas added 14 points and 12 steals and Richelle Sherman had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies, who are on an eight-game winning streak.

Birmingham 54, Cleveland 38--Jessica Cosby, the Cavaliers’ leading scorer and rebounder, went down with an apparent knee injury early in the second quarter, and the Patriots (12-7, 5-3) capitalized on her absence, rolling to a North Valley League victory at Birmingham.

Cosby, who averages 23 points and 11 rebounds, finished with six points for the Cavaliers (10-8, 3-5).

El Camino Real 44, Chatsworth 37--Chrissy McLain took advantage of Liz Sun’s foul trouble by scoring 10 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter for the No. 8-ranked Conquistadores in a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.

Christina Aguinaga scored 16 for El Camino Real, which lost a nine-point halftime lead.
