El Dorado Beats Hemet in Overtime
Ignacio Cid dribbled passed two defenders and kicked the ball into the right side of the net one minute into overtime, and Ryan Valdez scored on a penalty kick 16 minutes later to lead El Dorado to a 3-1 victory over Hemet in a second-round Southern Section Division III boys’ soccer game Tuesday at El Dorado.
Jason Smith scored in the 36th minute to tie the score for Hemet (17-6-2). El Dorado (24-2-1) plays South Torrance in the quarterfinals Thursday.
In other Division III games:
Brea Olinda 4, Buena Park 0--Senior goalkeeper Mark Becher recorded a school-record 13th shutout for Brea Olinda (21-4). The Wildcats next play Don Bosco Tech.
Santa Margarita 3, Foothill 0-- Junior Spencer George scored two goals in the second half for Santa Margarita (16-7-4). George assisted on Jon Nebot’s game winning goal in the first half. The Eagles play Trabuco Hills.
Trabuco Hills 3, Rosemead 0--Peter Padayachee scored on a free kick and Scott Thompson and Kit Hager scored to lead visiting Trabuco Hills (16-7-5).
In Division I:
Lawndale Leuzinger 5, Dana Hills 4 (OT)--Brian Liebman scored twice for visiting Dana Hills (12-8-8). Jose Zasquez scored four goals for Leuzinger.
Saddleback 3, Redlands 0--Alex Licea and Ismael Cervantes scored for visiting Saddleback (20-5-3).
In Division IV:
Servite 2, Lompoc Cabrillo 0--John Trejo and Robert Vallejo scored Servite’s goals in the first half. James Towers, who has 14 shutouts for the season, had two saves for Servite (22-5-3). The Friars play Yucca Valley next.
In Division V:
Carpinteria 2, Calvary Chapel 1--Eric Lusk scored in the 43rd minute to give Calvary Chapel (11-12-1) the lead, but Ivan Pena scored twice after that, the second with four minutes left, to lift visiting Carpinteria (14-4-5).
Orange Lutheran 4, Santa Barbara Bishop Diego 1--Junior Sean Silva scored three goals for Orange Lutheran and Jeff Renevier had one. Jason Talmage and John Hehl each had two saves for visiting Orange Lutheran (20-4-4).
St. Margaret’s 5, Cerritos Whitney 0--Eric Hallenbeck and Jeremiah Gallegos each scored twice for St. Margaret’s (15-8-1). Whitney finished 9-2-8.
