Foothill to Face Brea in Title Game

Damaris Hinojosa scored a game-high 28 points, but it wasn’t enough for second-seeded Moorpark, which lost to third-seeded Foothill, 41-35, in a Southern Section Division II-AA girls’ basketball semifinal game Saturday at Moorpark.

Kristen Mann had the task of guarding Hinojosa, who was nine of 34 from the floor. Mann and Chavaughn Brown (17 rebounds) each scored 12 points to lead the Knights (27-3).

Moorpark took a 22-21 lead with a minute to go in the third, but the Knights came back, scoring the last six points of the quarter. Moorpark couldn’t get closer than five in the fourth quarter. Foothill plays Brea Olinda in the championship game.

In another Division II-AA game:

Brea Olinda 63, Canyon 41--Lindsey Davidson had 15 points, including three three-pointers, and seven assists to lead Brea Olinda (27-3) in the semifinal game.

In Division I-AA:

El Toro 56, Fontana A.B. Miller 32--After struggling through the first half, second-seeded El Toro (22-4) broke the game open with a 12-2 run in the third quarter. The Chargers shot only 25% in the first half.

El Toro trailed, 14-13, in the second quarter before going on an 11-2 run that featured two three-point baskets by Gioconda Mendiola (17 points), and led at halftime, 26-20.

El Toro shot over 40% in the second half. Giuliana Mendiola scored 18 and Amy Rikimaru 13 for El Toro, which reached the semifinals for the second consecutive season. A.B. Miller finishes 21-8. The Chargers will play Lynwood.

In Division III-A

Inglewood Morningside 38, Costa Mesa 34--Autumn Smith scored 12 and Nancy Hatsushi eight as the third-seeded Mustangs (19-11) fell short against second-seeded Morningside (20-9) at Inglewood High. Morningside will play North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, a 65-46 winner over Santa Ynez, in the final.

In Division V-AA:

Riverside Woodcrest Christian 48, Capistrano Valley Christian 37--Tanasha Peterson and Cinnamon DeLeon each scored 13 to lead Woodcrest Christian (17-6) in the quarterfinals.

Bethany Thom scored 16 for Capistrano Valley Christian (21-5).
