Arceo Hits Three Long Shots, Leaving Loyola a Little Short

Ryan Arceo hit three three-point shots in the fourth quarter to help Chaminade High come from behind to defeat Loyola, 48-43, in a Mission League game at Chaminade.

Arceo, who finished with 12 points, tied the game, 37-37, with his first long shot of the fourth quarter. He gave the Eagles a 40-37 lead with another three-pointer, and extended Chaminade’s advantage to 45-38 with his last one with 1:30 to play.

Chaminade (15-3, 4-1 in league play) earned its fifth victory in a row despite intense defensive pressure on sophomore Scott Borchart.

Borchart, who was averaging 16.2 points a game, was double- and triple-teamed throughout and finished with three points. He made one of five shots.

Darren Tarlow had nine points and eight rebounds for Chaminade, ranked second in The Times’ regional poll.

Calabasas 85, Villanova Prep 50--Spencer Hariton hit six three-point shots and tied the Coyotes’ single-season record while scoring 35 points in a nonleague game at Villanova Prep.

Hariton made six of 15 three-point shots and 13 of 24 shots overall. He tied the record of 61 three-pointers set by Sean O’Busick in 1990.

Newbury Park Adventist 49, Cornerstone Christian 47--Robbie Wolcott scored 18 points and the Gators won a Condor League game at Newbury Park Adventist (9-5, 3-2). Andrew Tasker had 20 points for Cornerstone Christian.

Faith Baptist 47, Ribet Academy 40--Stefan Grasu collected 15 points, 16 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Contenders in a Heritage League victory at Faith Baptist.

Grace Brethren 75, L.A. Lutheran 31--Robert Serra had 18 points for the Lancers (9-7, 5-1) in a Heritage League victory at L.A. Lutheran.

Chuck Krable scored 11 points for L.A. Lutheran.
