Bowman Will Replace Mohr as Canyon Football Coach
Jack Bowman, former coach at Saugus High, has been chosen to replace Larry Mohr as football coach at Canyon High in Canyon Country.
Principal Vicki Engbrecht made the decision Wednesday, passing over Harry Welch, who guided the Cowboys to consecutive Southern Section championships from 1983-85. Engbrecht’s choice must be approved by the William S. Hart High District board.
Bowman has been running the team’s summer workouts since the resignation of Mohr earlier this month. Bowman coached at Saugus from 1991-96 and was defensive coordinator at Canyon last season.

Rob Phenicie, offensive coordinator at Cal State Northridge the last two seasons, has resigned, six weeks after the school launched an internal investigation into alleged NCAA rules violations within the football program.
A Northridge spokesman said Phenicie did not provide a reason for his resignation and that it was unrelated to the investigation. Phenicie said he regretted leaving Northridge, but declined to elaborate on his departure.
