Notre Dame Wins With Brewster Assist

Shortstop Jonathon Brewster of Van Nuys Notre Dame is a defensive whiz who put on quite a show Saturday night at Burroughs High.

Brewster recorded eight assists and started three double plays to help Van Nuys Notre Dame stay alive in the American Legion District 20 playoffs with an 8-5 victory over Valley Chatsworth.

Brewster, who will be a senior at Notre Dame High, also contributed two hits for Van Nuys Notre Dane (28-3), which will play Encino Crespi at 1 p.m. today in an elimination game at Birmingham High. The winner will play Valley Chatsworth for the district title at 4 p.m.

Ryan Cowsill (5-2) allowed two runs in six innings and Phil Polanco pitched two shutout innings for Van Nuys Notre Dame, which handed Valley Chatsworth (28-3) its first defeat of the double-elimination tournament.
