About 100 Los Angeles County firefighters will be returning home today after days of battling a brush fire on Santa Catalina Island that consumed 350 acres.

Firefighters had contained the blaze Thursday morning and since then have worked to put out any remaining hot spots, said Capt. Steve Valenzuela of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The fire, which broke out Tuesday afternoon, was one of the biggest the island has experienced, officials said.

A total of 175 firefighters and three water-dropping helicopters battled the blaze when it was at its worst, said Edward Osorio, a Fire Department inspector.

There were no injuries reported and no structures threatened. The fire got no closer than three miles from the island’s airport and about 12 miles from Avalon.
