Reward Offered for Leads in School Fires
COMPTON — The Compton Unified School District is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for a series of school arson fires.
Seven weekend fires have been set at five of the district’s 40 school sites since early March, district officials said. Two fires were set Sunday; one gutted a large storage facility at Compton High School on South Acacia Street and the other damaged a kindergarten classroom at Anderson Elementary School on West 130th Street.
The rash of fires began March 5 with a fire that destroyed a portable classroom at McNair Elementary School. An April 18 blaze at Willowbrook Middle School heavily damaged a wing of eight classrooms. Three fires have been set at Centennial High School this year, one of which damaged five classrooms.
Anyone with information is asked to call (800) 47-ARSON.
