FIRST TEAM / PORCHEA CARROLL

Rio Mesa, Sophomore. Events: 100 meters, 200 meters, Long jump

* Carroll was the yearly region leader in the 100 with a time of 11.70 and in the long jump with a leap of 19-3 1/2, and she posted wind-aided marks of 23.80 (twice) and 23.81 in the 200. Her 100 time ties her for fourth on the all-time region list and her school-record long jump ranks seventh. She placed fourth in the 100 and eighth in the long jump in the state championships.

TIFFANY SMITH

Taft, Senior. Events: 400 meters, Triple jump

* The Nevada Las Vegas-bound Smith led the region in the 400 at 56.10 and in the triple jump at 38-4 3/4. She placed second in both events in the City Section championships to help Taft to its second consecutive title.

LAUREN FLESHMAN

Canyon, Senior. Events: 800 meters, 1,600 meters, 3,200 meters

* The region’s athlete of the year won the state title in the 3,200 with a nation-leading time of 10:18.81 and pulled off an unprecedented 800-1,600-3,200 triple in the Division II races of the Southern Section championships. In addition, the Stanford-bound Fleshman ran a nation-leading 4:27.73 in the 1,500, a region-leading 2:11.05 in the 800 that ranks ninth on the all-time region list and her 4:59.4 clocking in the 1,600 ranked second on the region list.

DENEEKA TORREY

Taft, Junior. Event: 100-meter high hurdles

* The City champion placed sixth in the state championships and ran a school-record 14.43 in her qualifying heat of the state meet to move to fourth on the all-time region list.

BECKY RAUTH

Harvard-Westlake, Senior. Event: 300-meter low hurdles

* The Yale-bound Rauth won the Southern Section Division III title and placed fifth in the state championships in a school-record 43.32 to move to seventh on the all-time region list.

BIRMINGHAM

Event: 400-meter relay

* The Patriot foursome of seniors Keisha Mierez and Lisa Labnow and juniors Gigi Mendola and Shakela Wilson placed second in the City championships with a school-record and region-leading 48.17.

TAFT

Event: 1,600-meter relay

* The Toreador quartet of senior Tiffany Smith and juniors Deneeka Torrey, Erin Reed and Trisha Bratford won the City title and placed fifth in the state championships. The foursome’s 3:48.64 clocking in the City final ranks fifth on the all-time region list.

ANNMARIE TURPIN

Simi Valley, Senior. Event: High jump

* The UC Irvine-bound Turpin won the Southern Section Masters Meet with a state-leading 5-10 1/2 and finished fourth in the state championships. She’s tied for third on the all-time region list.

BRIDGET PEARSON

Hoover, Senior. Event: Pole vault

* The 1997 state champion failed to qualify for the state meet for the first time in her career, but won her first Division I title in the Southern Section championships and her 12-2 1/2 clearance in the preliminaries ranks second on the all-time region list.

JESSICA COSBY

Cleveland, Junior. Event: Shotput

* Cosby was expected to miss the rest of the season after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on April 5, but she returned to win her third consecutive City title and place fifth in the state championships for the second consecutive year. Her school-record 45-6 1/2 effort in the City final moved her to seventh on the all-time region list.

SHELAINE LARSON

Buena, Junior. Event: Discus

* Larson won the Ventura County title with a school-record and region-leading throw of 135-1 and placed third in the Southern Section Division II final.

SECOND TEAM / SIERRA HAUSER-PRICE

Notre Dame, Sophomore. Events: 100 meters, 200 meters

* Hauser-Price won Southern Section Division III titles in the 100 and 200 and placed eighth in the 100 and seventh in the 200 in the state championships. Her 11.81 clocking in the 100 ranks eighth on the all-time region list and her 24.15 time in the 200 was a yearly region leader.

ANNMARIE TURPIN

Simi Valley, Senior. Event: 400 meters

* The top-ranked high jumper in the region won the Ventura County title in the 400, placed second in the Southern Section Division II final and ran a school-record 57.38.

ANITA SIRAKI

Hoover, Sophomore. Events: 800 meters, 1,600 meters, 3,200 meters

* Siraki was overshadowed by friend Lauren Fleshman of Canyon in the distance events, but finished fifth in the 3,200 in the state championships, won Southern Section Division I titles in the 1,600 and 3,200 and set school records of 2:15.61 in the 800, 4:55.75 in the 1,600 and 10:30.81 in the 3,200.

BECKY RAUTH

Harvard-Westlake, Senior. Event: 100-meter high hurdles

* The region’s top-ranked 300 hurdler ran a school-record 14.78 in winning the 100 highs in the Southern Section Division III final and placed sixth in the Masters Meet.

Taft, Junior. Event: 300-meter low hurdles

* The region’s top-ranked 100 hurdler ranked second in the 300 lows after winning the City title, placing seventh in the state championships and lowering her career best to 43.74.

CLEVELAND

Event: 400-meter relay

* Malinda Malone, the Cavaliers’ top returning sprinter, missed the season with a knee injury that required surgery, but the Cleveland foursome of sophomore Schquay Brignac and freshmen Michelle and Danielle Stinnette and Brynne Steward clocked a season-best 48.60 to place sixth in the City final.

BIRMINGHAM

Event: 1,600-meter relay

* The Patriot foursome of seniors Tiffany Burgess and Keisha Mierez and juniors Gigi Mendola and Shakela Wilson placed third in the City final in a school-record 3:50.99 to move to 10th on the all-time region list.

LISA WYGANT

Camarillo, Junior. Event: High jump

* Wygant tied for third in the Southern Section Division I final and equaled her career best of 5-6 to finish fifth in the Masters Meet.

MELISSA ASTETE

Birmingham, Sophomore. Event: Pole vault

* Astete, who had a best of 8-6 last year, cleared a school-record 11-1 to win her second consecutive City title and move to fourth on the all-time region list.

JAMEKA TAYLOR

Littlerock, Senior. Events: Long jump, Triple jump

* Taylor placed sixth in the long jump and second in the triple jump in the Southern Section Division I finals and had season bests of 17-5 3/4 in the former and 38-0 3/4 in the latter.

NATASHA POMELE

Rio Mesa, Senior. Events: Shotput, Discus

* Pomele was second on the yearly region list in the shotput at 40-11 and in the discus at 126-7 and finished fourth in the shotput in the Southern Section Division I final.
