Hard-Charging Jaros Takes Lead in Bowling

Steve Jaros averaged 256 for eight games Tuesday night, jumping from 19th place and into the lead after the second round of qualifying in the PBA Tour’s ACDelco All-Star Classic at Cal Bowl in Lakewood.

Jaros, who rolled the 13th televised perfect game in PBA history en route to winning his third title earlier this year in Chattanooga, Tenn., rolled six of his eight games at 257 or better. He leads the field with a pinfall total of 3,895, a 243 average.

Brian Himmler’s jump wasn’t quite as impressive as Jaros’. Himmler, who won his first career title earlier this year in Albuquerque, posted high games of 257, 256, 268 and 279 to move from 13th to second with a total of 3,854 pins.

PBA Hall of Famer Amleto Monacelli of Venezuela was third with 3,796 and was followed by first-round leader Michael Haugen Jr., 3,780.
