Saddleback’s Concolino Gets Big Hit

Chad Concolino’s bases-loaded triple highlighted a five-run seventh, leading Saddleback, the second-ranked team in Southern California, to victory over host Fullerton, 13-3, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday.

Concolino had four runs batted in, Jason Marina had three RBIs and four runs scored and Greg Pines had three hits and three runs scored for Saddleback (18-5, 5-3).

Mike Caira had three RBIs for Fullerton (13-11, 2-6).

In other conference games:

Golden West 14, Orange Coast 3--Joe Yagher hit a two-run home run and finished with four RBIs, Brian Jones and Chris Carey each had two RBIs, and Joey Francisco had four hits for visiting Golden West (14-8, 4-4).

Riverside 9, Santa Ana 2--Wayne Stone went five for five with two doubles and two RBIs for visiting Riverside (12-9-1, 4-4). Dustin Wagoner had two hits and an RBI for Santa Ana (13-10, 3-5).

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Cypress 9, Golden West 1 (5, mercy rule)--Melissa Beck had three hits and scored two runs for visiting Cypress (21-4, 5-1).

Fullerton 4, Saddleback 3--Veronica Jimenez had two hits and three RBIs and Michelle Ivy allowed one earned run to lead host Fullerton (18-7, 3-3).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Golden West 9, Riverside 0--J.C. Arzaga swept 6-0, 6-0, to lead host Golden West (14-1).

Fullerton 5, Cypress 4--Fullerton’s Jeremiah Rodriguez and Daniel Morales defeated John Watson and Thien Khuu-Nguyen, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, in the deciding match.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Fullerton 9, Cypress 0--Fullerton lost only four games in singles and five in doubles.
