Fountain Valley Wins Its Second Tournament Title

Fountain Valley won its second baseball tournament title of the season Saturday, defeating San Clemente, 10-3, in the Pride of the Coast tournament at Costa Mesa.

The seventh-ranked Barons (16-6), who also won the Loara tournament this season, were led by Matt Tafoya with two hits, two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Will Hudson added two hits, including a home run and three RBIs for the Barons.

In another Pride of the Coast game:

Corona del Mar 19, Costa Mesa 9--Ty Harper went three for six with two doubles and an RBI and Mark Hatfield went three for five with two doubles and three RBIs for visiting Corona del Mar (13-6). Costa Mesa is 11-7-1.

In the Golden West League:

Ocean View 8, Westminster 7--Chris Savage reached on an error with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and John Clark scored the winning run. Brian Stanley hit a leadoff home run and Marcus Ouni hit a two-run triple with two outs in the Seahawks’ four-run seventh inning. Ocean View is 11-11, 5-6. Westminster is 13-7-1, 7-4.

In a nonleague game:

Calvary Chapel 10, La Mirada 3--Randy Blood and Matt Mossberg each had home runs and pitcher Brett Young improved to 8-0, leading the Eagles to their 19th victory.

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Santa Margarita 113, Mater Dei 42--Jonathan Russell won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes 4.30 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 49.64 for Santa Margarita. Harris Radie won the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.94 and James Major won the 200 freestyle in 2:02.93 for the Eagles.

In nonleague girls’ swimming:

No. 6 Santa Margarita 109, Mater Dei 59--Dominique Rash won the 200 individual medley in 2:19.40 and the 100 freestyle in 56.51 for Santa Margarita (10-3). She also helped the Eagles win the 200 medley relay in 1:56.82 and the 400 freestyle relay in 3:52.21.

In the Canyon Team Challenge boys’ tennis tournament:

Aliso Niguel 42, Servite 30 (in games)--Aliso Niguel’s Jason Mednick handed Patrick Buchanon his second loss of the season to lead the Wolverines in the final.
