Division IV preliminaries--J.P. Blecksmith of Flintridge Prep won his heats in the boys’ 200-meter and 400-meter dashes at Citrus College in Covina.

Blecksmith, the starting quarterback for the Rebels’ football team, ran the 200 in 22.60 seconds--good enough for sixth place overall, and was third overall in the 400 in 50.66.

Imran Ahmad of Flintridge Prep qualified for next Saturday’s finals at Cerritos College in the boys’ 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.47. Steve Oderkirk, a senior for the Rebels, qualified for the boys’ triple jump, finishing fourth overall with a distance of 42 feet 10 inches.

Sophomore Erin Levy of Campbell Hall qualified for the girls’ high jump with a leap of 4-8. Achcan Madjad of L.A. Baptist was second overall in the boys’ shotput with a throw of 51-2 1/2, and Flintridge Prep’s Wes Carroll also qualified with a mark of 48-4 3/4.

In the girls’ discus, Nordhoff’s Christen Roper was third at 112-6, and Alexis Frederick of St. Bonaventure was fifth at 103-5.

Justin Bracamonte of Nordhoff qualified in the boys’ long jump with a leap of 20-10 1/2, and Evan Bacon of Oakwood was third in the boys’ pole vault, clearing 11-6. In the girls’ pole vault, Anna Kartalia of L.A. Baptist was third with a height of 8-0.

Chris Covert of Paraclete qualified second overall in the boys’ 800 meters in 1:59.52 and Ahmad was the final qualifier at 2:02.47.

In the girls’ 800 meters, Stephanie Haas of St. Bonaventure was third in 2:28.40 and Sarah Scarfe of Campbell Hall was fifth in 2:28.51. Scarfe also qualified third overall in the 1,600 meters in 5:25.54.

Ahmad was also fourth in the 1,600 meters in 4:29.67, followed by seniors Jeff Tomlinson (4:30.32) and Mike Tomlinson (4:30.97) of Crossroads.

Andreas Oggier of Oak Park was third in the boys’ 100-meter dash in 11.18.
