Hancock 45, Glendale 30--The Vaqueros kept pace with the Bulldogs’ high-octane offense for more than a half before faltering at Glendale High.

The Vaqueros (3-5, 1-4) rallied from a 14-0 deficit to tie the score on two touchdown passes from Mike Frost to Paul Smith in the second quarter, then took the lead, 23-21, when Darrel Furutani scored on a two-yard run on the opening series of the third quarter.

Hancock (7-1, 4-1), ranked No. 7 in the state by the J.C. Athletic Bureau, and the top offensive team in the WSC, reeled off 21 consecutive points to close out the third quarter and was never threatened again. The Bulldogs churned out 522 yards, including 340 on the ground.

Chris Lester of Hancock had 190 yards in 18 carries.

Frost, the WSC’s leading passer, threw for 440 yards and three touchdowns, completing 24 of 40 passes with one interception. Smith caught the three touchdown passes and finished with 229 yards on 11 receptions.

Chad Heydorf of Glendale had six catches for 125 yards.
