Saddleback Off to Good Start in Tennis Playoffs

Saddleback’s Christina Duong and Angelina Sivoraphonh upset Long Beach Millikan’s top doubles team to tie the match on sets and give the Roadrunners the victory on games, 82-70, in a Division I wild-card girls’ tennis match Tuesday at Millikan.

Kim Nguyen lost only one game in singles for Saddleback (8-5), which will play top-seeded Palos Verdes Peninsula in the first round today.

In a Division III wild-card match:

Canyon 10, Hemet 8--Nicole Sadler and Kim Niino swept in singles play for host Canyon (11-8), which overcame a pulled thigh muscle injury to Century League singles champion Heather Hohenstein. Hohenstein left after winning her first set, 6-2, then watched Sadler sweep 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, and Niino sweep 6-2, 6-0, 6-1.

The Comanches play Thursday at Palm Desert.

Laguna Hills 17, Savanna 1--Tricia Lee and Jessica Prause each swept in singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for host Laguna Hills.

In Division IV:

Rosary 11, Western 7--Freshmen Renee Paquillo and Jenna Erich swept in singles for Rosary (15-6). Paquillo won, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2, and Erich’s scores were 6-3, 7-5, 6-3.

In a Division II water polo game:

Sonora 19, Santa Ana 3--Jeff Padgett scored five goals while David Bock and Kimo Foley added three apiece to lead visiting Sonora (19-5).

In Division VI:

Valencia 10, San Dimas 4--Chris Stratford and Anthony Rosales scored two of their three goals in the fourth quarter as Valencia outscored visiting San Dimas, 5-2. Michael Lightfoot and Matt Straw contributed two goals each and Kile Baker had 13 saves in goal for the Tigers.
