Royal Has Finishing Kick, 12-10

Royal High scored seven goals in the final quarter and beat Santa Barbara, 12-10, on Saturday in the semifinals of the Southern Section Division IV water polo playoffs at Oxnard High.

Ramiro Saldian and Justin McClure each scored three goals during the outburst for the Highlanders (24-6), who trailed, 8-5.

Royal will play Santa Maria Righetti in the final at UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday.

“This team has been in this adverse situation a number of times this season,” Coach Steve Snyder of Royal said. “They’ve never folded, buckled or caved in.”

Saldian scored five goals and goalie Tom Onyshko had 11 saves.

Righetti 9, Ventura 7--Jeremy Ballew scored the go-ahead goal with 48 seconds left for the Warriors at Oxnard High.

Ventura (22-6) scored three goals in three minutes to tie the score, 7-7. Ben Holmes, Mike Derse and Travis Dasnoit each scored two goals for the Cougars.

Ballew and Chris Chavis each scored three goals for Righetti (27-1), which will play in its third consecutive Division IV final.

La Canada 11, Bell Gardens 6--Bryan Hiscox scored two of his three goals in a six-goal third quarter for the Spartans in the Division III Southern Section semi-finals at Pasadena City College.

Ben Jorgensen scored both of his goals in the third quarter for La Canada (25-3), with the first goal putting the Spartans ahead, 5-4.

Devin McIntire scored three goals for the Spartans, who play Crescenta Valley in the final Tuesday at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.

Crescenta Valley 11, La Serna 8--Jeff Little scored six goals for the Falcons (25-2) in the Division III semifinals at Mt. San Antonio College.

Crescenta Valley (25-2) held two-meter man Jordan Keitel of La Serna (21-10) to three goals.

Mike Hoy had 17 saves and Carlos Pelayo scored four goals for Crescenta Valley.

Long Beach Wilson 7, Harvard-Westlake 2--The top-seeded Bruins reached the Division I final by downing the Wolverines at Pepperdine.
