St. Bonaventure Clocks Ontario Christian, 64-15

Time flies when you’re having fun . . . and using a running clock.

Sophomore Lorenzo Booker ran for for five touchdowns and St. Bonaventure High routed Ontario Christian, 64-15, in a Southern Section Division IX first-round playoff game Saturday at Ventura High.

“I’m having a great time,” Booker said. “I’m just very fortunate. I never expected to be doing this well.”

Booker rushed for 148 yards in 22 carries, including 106 yards and all of his scores in the first half as St. Bonaventure built a 55-7 lead. He ran for touchdowns of 15, 13, one, one, and 27 yards.

Booker has 1,965 yards in 228 carries this season with 25 touchdowns. His total surpassed Topi Sanchez’s school record of 1,943 yards set in 1995.

Mike Barrow kicked three extra points and made a 27-yard field goal to raise his season kick-scoring total to 53 points, surpassing the single-season record of 46 set by Matt Fowler in 1984.

Senior wide receiver Adam Gray-Hayward made eight catches for 99 yards against Ontario Christian (5-6), including touchdown catches of 26 and nine yards. He has 16 scoring receptions this year, tying the single-season record set by Pepe Villasenor in 1996.

St. Bonaventure (11-0), which has set a school record for consecutive victories in a season, advanced to the playoffs’ quarterfinals for the second consecutive season. The Seraphs play Santa Paula on Friday night at a site to be determined by a coin flip today.

St. Bonaventure broke open a 20-7 game with a 35-point second quarter and gained 403 yards. Ontario Christian gained 171 yards.

Ryan Fuqua had 69 yards rushing and one touchdown in 15 carries for the Knights.

“They’re an awesome team,” Coach Tim Van Regenmorter of Ontario Christian said. “They’ve got some exceptional athletes, and if you start trying to name them all, you’ll leave someone out. If they stay healthy, they shouldn’t have any trouble going all the way.”
