Bishop Montgomery High ended La Canada’s season--again, and this time, it’s official.

La Canada fell to the top-seeded Knights 15-6, 15-9, 15-6, in a Southern Regional State playoff match at Bishop Montgomery on Saturday night.

It is the second time La Canada (24-4) has lost to Bishop Montgomery in a month. The Knights swept La Canada in the Southern Section playoffs last week.

Katie Olsovsky dominated for Bishop Montgomery again. The USC-bound outside hitter had 25 kills for the Knights (30-3).

La Canada, which upset Tollhouse Sierra in an earlier state playoff match, was led by Kelly Gaudino, who had 12 kills.

Vanessa Young added 10 kills and setter Tracy Neumeier had 34 assists.

“We tried to play a flawless game, “ Gaudino said. “But every time we made a mistake, they threw it right back at us.”

La Canada took a 6-4 lead in the first game and then watched Bishop Montgomery reeled off 11 straight points.

Olsovsky was in full control in game three, when she had 11 kills.

“I could sense a spot in the [semifinals],” Olsovsky said. “That was some extra motivation.”

Bishop Montgomery, defending Division III state champion, hosts Corona del Mar in the Southern Regional final on Tuesday.
