Los Alamitos, Mater Dei Will Host Games
Los Alamitos and Mater Dei won coin flips Saturday and will host Southern Section Division I semifinal football games Friday, although the Griffins don’t figure to have much of an edge.
Los Alamitos (11-1), which played a first-round playoff game at Cerritos Gahr, chose to face top-seeded Long Beach Poly (12-0) at Long Beach Veterans Stadium, which is also the Jackrabbits’ home field. Mater Dei (10-2) faces fourth-seeded Eisenhower (11-1) at Santa Ana Stadium.
In Friday’s Division VI semifinals, Irvine (9-2-1), which upset top-seeded Lakewood Mayfair, hosts Loara (10-2). Newport Harbor (11-0-1) is home against Kennedy (9-3).
In a Division IX semifinal, Western (8-4-1) hosts an Orange League rematch with Brea Olinda (11-0-1). The Pioneers put the only blemish on the Wildcats’ record with a 21-21 tie in the sixth week of the season.
