Whittier California 52, Costa Mesa 41--David Shellman scored 16 points for California and Nate Jones led Costa Mesa with 14.

Valencia 61, Santa Fe Springs St. Paul 51--Keinan Briggs scored 17 points and Eric Dixon chipped in with 16 to lead visiting Valencia.

Abraham Cruz had 15 points for St. Paul.

In the Bolsa Grande/Pacifica tournament:

Bolsa Grande 87, Santa Ana Valley 52--Jon James had 19 points and 13 rebounds and freshman David Doan scored 14 points to lead host Bolsa Grande. The Matadors next face University Wednesday night.

Katella 50, Edison 44--Phil Tyson led host Katella with 24 points in the debut for Coach Sal Glorioso, the longtime assistant who replaced Tom Danley.

In the Coyote Classic:

Buena Park 62, Saddleback 49--Deandre Gipson scored 18 points and had six assists and Chris Ingram contributed 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead host Buena Park.

Ismael Isais scored 21 for Saddleback.

Rancho Alamitos 55, Kennedy 54--Cuby Vantich made a three-point basket with three seconds left to win it for Rancho Alamitos in the pool-play game. Vantich was the leading scorer with 25 points.

In the La Habra Tournament:

Calvary Chapel 77, Northwood JV 48--Torin Beeler, who transferred from Ocean View High this year, led the Eagles with 25 points in the first-round game. Scott Sanchez had 16 points, including three three-pointers.

El Dorado 96, San Pedro 46--Quinn Hawking scored 35 points, including five three-point baskets, for host El Dorado.

Mike Wulff added 14 and David Patten 13 also for El Dorado. Patten also had seven rebounds for the Golden Hawks, and the team shot 76% from the free throw line.

La Habra 85, Riverside Notre Dame 40--Jason Smallwood led host La Habra with 22 points, including six three-point baskets. Tristen Gadberry added 21 points for the Highlanders. Tom Calhoun led Notre Dame with 15 points.

In nonleague games:

El Toro 67, Aliso Niguel 45--Christopher Parish scored 18 points and Ashkan Nazeri added 17 for host El Toro.

Fullerton 79, Los Angeles Mesrobian 27--Puck-Maan Sidhu scored 23 points, including six three-pointers, for host Fullerton. Teammate Akachi Azubuike added 16 points.

Laguna Hills 70, Trabuco Hills 62--Laguna Hills led after the first quarter with 13 points and continued to lead Trabuco Hills for the entire game. Alvaro Lua led Laguna Hills with 20 points, including three three-point shots, and Chris Lee added 18. Kade Stone had 10 rebounds for the Hawks.

Evan Fields was the high scorer for Trabuco Hills with 20 points.

Marina 80, Whittier 42--Dustin Kaatz poured in 31 points, including four three-pointers, to lead host Marina (1-0).

Randy Masada added eight assists for the Vikings.
