No. 2 Woodbridge Beats Laguna Beach

Junior Susanna Lingman and freshman Elizabeth Exon each swept in singles to help second-ranked Woodbridge to a 15-3 victory over visiting Laguna Beach in nonleague girls’ tennis Monday.

Lingman, the No. 1 singles player for the Warriors won, 6-0, 6-0, and by default. Exon won, 7-5, 6-3, 6-1.

The Warriors’ also got a sweep by their No. 2 doubles team of Adriana Hockicko and Heather Hustedt, who won 6-3, 6-0, 6-1.

Laguna Beach, ranked seventh in the county, was without No. 1 singles’ player Ashley Maddocks because she was fatigued and recovering from a bad cold, according to Artist Coach Michelle Foster.

In other nonleague tennis:

Edison 15, Westminster 3--Freshman Kelly Iwanabe swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to lead host Edison (7-3).

Esperanza 12, Cypress 6--Junior Kelly Six avenged her loss from last year as she beat Cypress’ Samantha Waller, 7-5 at No. 1 singles for Esperanza. She also won, 6-0, 6-0.

In Serra League girls’ golf:

Bishop Montgomery 131, No. 6 Mater Dei 145--Mater Dei’s Heather McDermott was the medalists, shooting a two-over 38 for the Monarchs at Los Verdes. In the Sunset League:

Edison 122, Fountain Valley 125--Lauren Koyanagi shot a seven-over 38 to lead host Edison (2-4, 1-2) at David L. Baker. Freshman Minnie Choi of Fountain Valley (2-2, 1-2) was medalist at three-over 34.

In nonleague golf:

No. 9 Ocean View 131, Huntington Beach 154--Nicole Peralta shot a four-over 40 to lead host Ocean View (6-4) at Meadowlark. The team score of 131 is a school record for the Seahawks on their home course.

In nonleague girls’ volleyball:

No. 2 Mater Dei 3, Long Beach Wilson 2--Lindsay Pavlik had 16 kills and Kelley Kincheloe had 14 as host Mater Dei (6-0), won 15-11, 13-15, 15-9, 14-16, 15-1.

In nonleague water polo:

Buena Park 20, Lakewood 4--Steve Lopez scored six goals and Kyle Harriman had five to lead visiting Buena Park (8-3).
