Marina Wins on Goal by Kuhns With :02 Left

Justin Kuhns scored with two seconds left to give visiting Marina a 5-4 Sunset League victory over Huntington Beach in boys’ water polo Wednesday.

Marina trailed, 4-2, going into the final quarter, but got two goals from Dave Wagner to go along with the game-winner from Kuhns. Wagner finished with three goals to lead the Vikings (10-10, 2-2).

Huntington Beach is 8-15, 1-3.

In other Sunset League games:

No. 8 Los Alamitos 19, Fountain Valley 3--Trevor Wawrzynski had six goals and two assists to lead Los Alamitos (17-6, 4-0).

The victory clinched at least a share of the league title for Los Alamitos, which needs to beat Huntington Beach (1-3 in league) next week to win the title.

Danny Coultrup, Erik Geoffroy and Joe Gentner each had three goals for the Griffins. Coultrup also had nine steals.

Esperanza 6, Edison 5 (OT)--Tim Breig scored two goals to lead host Esperanza (3-1 in league).

Shaun Carman scored four goals and had seven steals for Edison (13-10, 2-2).

In the Century League:

No. 2 Foothill 24, Orange 3--The Knights scored 12 goals in the first quarter, then followed with six in the second. Mike McClay scored four goals and Brian Alexander, Blake Seymour and Pat Logan each scored three for Foothill (13-6, 3-0).

No. 6 Villa Park 11, Canyon 5--Canyon led, 2-1, at the end of the first quarter, but Villa Park came back with five second-quarter goals.

T.J. Matijevich had four goals to lead the Spartans (15-5, 3-0) and Matt Herrera and Shane Joffe had two goals each. Jared Jones had eight saves for Villa Park, which remains tied for first place with Foothill.

Santa Ana Valley 16, El Modena 5--Jose Elias scored five goals to lead Santa Ana Valley (20-5, 3-1). The victory clinched third place in the league and assured the Falcons a spot in the Southern Section playoffs.

Fernando Garcia and Juan Mendez each added four goals for Valley.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Corona del Mar 14, University 5--In its first season since departing the Sea View League, Corona del Mar clinched the league championship with its rout of University.

Garrett Bowlus led all scorers with four goals for the Sea Kings (11-7, 4-0), and Morgan Johnston had three goals. Goalie Brad Netherton had nine saves for Corona del Mar, including a blocked four-meter attempt.

In the Sea View League:

No. 10 Irvine 22, Laguna Hills 18--Billy Swanson scored six goals and Mike Shapiro added five to lead visiting Irvine (13-6, 2-1).

Ryan McMillan scored nine goals for Laguna Hills (15-6, 0-3).

In the Serra League:

No. 5 Servite 20, St. John Bosco 13--Sophomore Vincent Bevins scored six goals and Michael Moungian scored four and had five steals and two assists to lead visiting Servite (16-4, 5-0).

Santa Margarita 18, Mater Dei 6--Junior Garrett Marquis scored seven goals and Nick Nolan scored five to lead host Santa Margarita (12-8, 4-1).

In Century League girls’ golf:

No. 3 Villa Park 109, Santa Ana Valley 145--Priscilla Park shot a one-over 32 for visiting Villa Park (14-4, 10-0) at David L. Baker. Jessica Chong had a three-over 34 for the Spartans.

Foothill 149, El Modena 157--Lauren Meskell had three pars to lead Foothill (6-10, 5-4) with a 12-over 48 at Tustin Ranch. Foothill’s victory clinched third place and a spot in the Southern Section playoffs.

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 110, Cypress 125--Stella Min and Victoria Gicconelli were co-medalists, shooting five-over 34 to lead visiting El Dorado (7-0 in league) at Bixby Village.

Remy Hitomi shot eight-over 37 to lead Cypress (7-9, 5-2).

In the Ocean League:

Palos Verdes Chadwick 145, Ocean View 157--Nicole Peralta had the top score for Ocean View (10-7, 2-4) with a 48. Chadwick’s Rachel Brasher was medalist with a 41 on the par-35 Rolling Hills Country Club course.

In the Pacific Coast League:

No. 1 University 115, Corona del Mar 135--Angela Won was the medalist, making seven pars and shooting two-over 37 to lead visiting University (15-0, 7-0) at the Newport Beach Country Club. Teammates Michelle Barth and Sunny Lee shot 38 and 40, respectively.

Taylor McCormick had the low round for Corona del Mar (11-5-1, 5-2-1), a four-over 39.

In the Sea View League:

Laguna Hills 138, Aliso Niguel 146--Valerie Wong shot a four-over 39 to medal for Laguna Hills (9-7, 2-5). Laura Mulnar was second for the Hawks with a 48.

Candy Lin had Aliso Niguel’s low score with a 41 at par-35 Aliso Viejo.

In the Serra League:

No. 7 Mater Dei 140, Lakewood St. Joseph’s 148--Heather McDermott rolled in two birdies and four pars, shooting a one-over 38 and medaling for visiting Mater Dei (9-3, 4-3) at Lakewood Country Club.

In nonleague girls’ golf:

No. 2 Newport Harbor 304, Capistrano Valley 324--Newport Harbor’s Kelly Hunt shot a team-best combined score of 94 at Santa Ana Country Club and Marbella. The Sailors are 16-0.

Irvine 146, St. Margaret’s 152--Stella Lee had seven pars and led Irvine (7-6) with a four-over 40 at San Juan Hills.

In Golden West League girls’ volleyball:

Ocean View 3, Santa Ana 0--Kelly Jameson had 24 assists and Jenny Eldridge registered seven kills to lead visiting Ocean View (13-1, 10-0), which won 15-8, 15-6, 15-6.

Tustin 3, Saddleback 1--Elizabeth Smith had 13 kills and Quyen Cong had nine aces to lead host Tustin (8-6, 7-3), which won, 15-7, 15-5, 11-15, 15-9.
