Fullerton Opens Its Season by Running Over Anaheim, 28-6

Relying on its running game, Fullerton High compiled 191 yards rushing Saturday night and defeated Anaheim, 28-6, in the season opener for both teams at Glover Stadium.

The visiting Indians extended the Colonists’ losing streak to 22 games.

Fullerton scored the first two touchdowns, both from Ryan Murray. On the Indians’ first possession, the sophomore capped a seven-play, 58-yard drive, running up the middle from seven yards to score three minutes 18 seconds into the game. Murray carried the ball six times for 75 yards.

His senior teammate, Armando Lopez, finished with 109 yards in 31 carries. Lopez scored Fullerton’s last touchdown from five yards with 7:36 left in the game.

Manuel Corral led the Indian defense with two crucial sacks and an interception in the fourth quarter.

Junior quarterback Ryan Patterson provided Anaheim’s lone touchdown in the second quarter, scoring from 13 yards out on a keeper. The Colonists had two interceptions, one each from Rafael Osorio and David Lopez.
