BOYS
Derek Goodman
SCHOOL: Alemany
YEAR: Senior
SPORT: Football
LAST SEASON AT A GLANCE: Goodman scored eight touchdowns last year--four rushing, three receiving and one interception return--and helped Alemany win the Mission League title. This season, Goodman is a starting receiver and cornerback for the Indians, who have moved up to Southern Section Division I.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Goodman had eight catches for 160 yards and three touchdowns and returned a kickoff 94 yards for another score in a 65-30 victory over Hueneme. He also played well at cornerback against receiver Keary Colbert, a highly regarded recruit who had only one catch before leaving the game late in the second quarter because of a knee injury. “He was something else,” Alemany Coach Jim Bonds said of Goodman. “He was all over the field.”

GIRLS
Anita Siraki
SCHOOL: Hoover
YEAR: Junior
SPORT: Cross-country
LAST SEASON AT A GLANCE: Siraki blossomed into one of the top runners in the state, finishing fourth in the Southern Section Division I championships and 15th in the West regional. She improved in track, setting school records of 2:15.61 in the 800 meters, 4:55.75 in the 1,600 and 10:30.81 in the 3,200.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Siraki set a course record of 17:41 to win the junior race of the Millikan Invitational at Heartwell Park in Long Beach. Siraki’s time cut 61 seconds from the three-mile course record she set last year, despite coming off two hard weeks of training. “I think her legs were a little bit heavy,” Coach Greg Switzer said. “She wouldn’t admit that, but her last mile was slower than her first, and that’s usually not the way she runs.”
