A major reason Alemany is averaging 65 points and almost 535 yards per game is the play of its offensive line.

Tackles John Emelio and Albert Masih, guards Fernando Arteaga and Nick Keleshian and center Art David have provided a protective shield for Casey Clausen, who has been sacked only once in three games.

The Indians’ 27 touchdowns in three games are as many as some teams score in a season.

“I really think their three guys--their quarterback [Clausen], their running back [De’Andre Scott] and their receiver [Derek Goodman]--are as good as anyone in the [Southern Section],” Coach Kevin Rooney of Notre Dame said.

Harvard-Westlake has a 3-0 record and is dominating the competition. But no one knows how good the Wolverines really are because their first three opponents--Channel Islands, North Hollywood and San Marino--have a combined record of 1-8.

“The jury is still out,” Coach Dave Bennett said of his Wolverines.

What isn’t in question is the play of seniors Lerato Simelane and Alex Scott.

Simelane is one of the region’s best two-way starters. As a tailback, he’s averaging 9.9 yards per carry and has scored six touchdowns. As a free safety, he’s a fierce tackler and solid coverage man.

Linebacker Scott has 15 tackles for losses in three games.

There are plenty of tests ahead for the Wolverines, who play Nordhoff on Friday night, then have tough games against St. Bonaventure and St. Francis.

Moorpark has forfeited its victory over Channel Islands last week because it used two academically ineligible players, Athletic Director Rob Dearborn said.

Moorpark is 0-3, Channel Islands 1-2.
