Village Christian, with four freshman starters on its 11-player roster, opened the season 3-3. The Crusaders (7-4), who have won four of their last five by outscoring opponents, 52-9, have grown up quickly.

The pitching duo of freshman Jessica McIntosh (4-4) and sophomore Shannon Stauffer (3-0) has combined to allow only one run in their last three games.

“They’re both throwing well right now, and everyone is hitting well,” said co-Coach Karen Vail. “We’re looking forward to the rest of the season.”
