Steve Yaden

Kennedy, Baseball

Yaden, a Times’ all-county selection in football, showed his baseball skills this week, piling up six hits, six runs scored and eight runs batted in to pace Kennedy’s victories over Katella and Cypress and help the Fighting Irish move into first place in league. He hit two triples and two singles last week, and he hit two home runs in one inning, highlighting a 12-run first in Kennedy’s 18-11 victory over then league-leading Cypress.

Marina, Track and Field

Cleared 16 feet 5 inches at the Trabuco Hills Invitational, the state’s top mark and nation’s second-best mark this season.

* Damian Scott

Santa Margarita, Volleyball

Had 16 kills to help then-unranked Santa Margarita defeat fourth-ranked Newport Harbor in three games.

Liz Morse

Corona del Mar, Track and Field

Morse continued to prove she is one of the county’s top runners, winning the 800 meters at Saturday’s Trabuco Hills Invitational in 2 minutes 12.85 seconds, the fastest time in the state this season. She also won the 400 in a county-leading 56.18 seconds. Both marks surpassed her county-leading marks--2:18.9 in the 800 and 56.4 in the 400--she posted two weeks ago in a dual-meet victory over Laguna Beach.

Mater Dei, Softball

Struck out 28 in two games Saturday to help No. 1 Mater Dei (20-0) win the Covina Charter Oak tournament.

* Courtney Fossatti

Foothill, Softball

Pitched a two-hitter, improving to 8-0, and had two RBIs in No. 2 Foothill’s 5-0 victory over No. 6 Marina.
