Kennedy Doubles Pleasure on a Hit by Gutierrez, 2-1

Lina Gutierrez’s run-scoring double with two out in the sixth inning lifted Kennedy High to a 2-1 victory over Sylmar on Tuesday and gave the Golden Cougars sole possession of the Valley Mission League lead at Sylmar.

Marlena Aguirre scored from third on the hit to give Kennedy (12-3, 3-0 in league play) a one-game lead over Sylmar (9-5, 2-1).

Jennifer Landin hit a run-scoring single for Sylmar in the second.

Crescenta Valley 20, Muir 0--Meredith Cervenka pitched five perfect innings, striking out 14 of 15 batters, in a Pacific League opener halted by the 10-run rule at Montrose Park.

Cervenka had two hits and drove in two runs for Crescenta Valley (12-1).

Mel McCauley and Kris Franks each had two hits for the Falcons.

Glendale 13, Pasadena 3--Heather Hamasaki pitched a four-hitter, struck out eight and walked two for the Dynamiters in a Pacific League victory that was was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Kristine Rader hit a three-run double in the sixth to cap a six-run inning for Glendale (6-5).

Arcadia 1, Hoover 0--Cori Herbert (5-7) pitched a six-hitter, struck out 12 and walked two, but gave up a two-out, run-scoring single in the bottom of the 10th in a Pacific League opener.

Linda Martinez had two hits for Hoover (5-7).

Thousand Oaks 2, Royal 0--The Lancers snapped a scoreless tie when Jenny Perez scored on a Shannon Tevenbaugh’s fifth-inning sacrifice fly in a Marmonte League game at Rancho Simi Community Park.

Nicole Angelo (9-1) pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks for Thousand Oaks (9-2-1, 6-0).

Saugus 2, Canyon 0--Jennifer McLarty and Elizabeth Harkins scored on an error in the fourth inning for the Centurions (10-4, 2-0) in a Foothill League victory at Saugus.

Oak Park 1, St. Bonaventure 0--Sophomore Michelle Bregar singled home Cindy Berity with one out in the 11th inning to give the Eagles a Tri-Valley League victory at Oak Park.

Melissa Johnson pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Oak Park (6-5, 2-0).

La Reina 6, Bishop Diego 0--K.C. Robertson pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and hit a solo home run for the Regents in a Tri-Valley League game at Le Reina.

Monica Thompson and Tracey Clark each had two hits for La Reina (7-4, 2-0).

Montclair Prep 4, Faith Baptist 2--The Mounties, ranked No. 4 in Division VI, scored four runs in the first three innings and held on for a nonleague victory over the No. 6-ranked Contenders (10-2) at Franklin Field.

Monique Lovell (8-2) pitched a four-hitter, allowed no earned runs and struck out eight, and drove in a run for Montclair Prep (8-2).

Kelland Morrow added two hits for the Mounties.

North Hollywood 18, Poly 3--Claudia Andrade had two hits and three runs batted in for the Huskies in a Sunset Six League victory at Poly (5-9, 2-1).

Yvette Ortiz had four hits and two RBIs, and Nydia Mejia had three hits and two RBIs for the Huskies (4-10, 2-1).

Verdugo Hills 4, Canoga Park 0--Jessica McGivney (2-3) pitched a four-hitter, struck out nine and walked one for the Dons in a Sunset Six League game at Verdugo Hills.

Crystal Dingman had a triple, two stolen bases and scored twice for Verdugo Hills (7-4-1, 3-0).
