Hart Rallies Again to Leave Improving Valencia Frustrated

Valencia High was three outs from finally beating Hart in baseball Tuesday.

But for the second time in two weeks, Hart rallied to defeat Valencia and maintain its mastery of its cross-town rival.

Marke Horvat’s home run highlighted a seven-run eighth inning as the Indians defeated Valencia, 11-4, Tuesday at Valencia. Hart has a 14-0 all-time record against Valencia.

Richie Martin’s two-run home run in the sixth gave Valencia (9-4, 2-4 in league) a 4-3 lead, but Hart pulled even with a run in the seventh.

Chris Gagnon had a two-run homer and Matt Moore had a solo home run for Hart (11-2, 6-0), ranked No. 2 in The Times’ regional poll. Bill Susdorf (2-0) pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth to earn the victory.

On March 21, Hart erased a three-run deficit and defeated Valencia, 4-3.

Saugus 7, Burroughs 6--Rusty Coleman had a grand slam for the second consecutive game and five runs batted in for the Centurions (4-8-1, 2-3) in a Foothill League victory at Saugus.

Notre Dame 7, Alemany 3--Daniel Browne had seven strikeouts and gave up one earned run, and James Rivero had a two-run home run and scored once for the Knights (7-5, 5-2) in a Mission League victory at Notre Dame.

St. Francis 5, Loyola 3--Ryan Brown hit a two-out, two-run home run in the seventh to break a 3-3 tie in a Mission League game at Loyola.

Errol Simonitsch (2-1) threw a three-hitter, struck out eight and walked two for St. Francis (5-5-1, 1-3-1).

Calabasas 7, Santa Clara 3--Brad Schultz (3-0) allowed one earned run and four hits over four innings, and Randy Curtis had three hits and drove in a run for the Coyotes in a Frontier League victory at Calabasas.

Jesse Maichel and Justin Segal each drove in two runs, and Tony Sulser and Evan Tuchman each had two hits for the Coyotes (8-4-1, 4-1).

Nordhoff 8, Santa Paula 4--John Hill had two hits and two RBIs for Nordhoff (8-2, 5-1) in a Frontier League victory at Santa Paula (6-5, 2-3).

Aaron Segovia had three hits for Santa Paula.

Crescenta Valley 17, Glendale 1--Aaron McGuiness had a home run, double and single and drove in five runs, and the Falcons had 15 hits in a Pacific League game at Glendale.

John Barbaro had four hits and three RBIs, and David Decker had triple, single and four RBIs for Crescenta Valley (7-4, 5-1).

San Marcos 11, Hueneme 6--Sabino Pintones had two singles and three RBIs, but it wasn’t enough for Hueneme (3-8) in a Channel-Pacific View League Tournament game at San Marcos.

Camarillo 13, Ventura 5--Delmon Young had three hits and drove in four runs for host Camarillo in a Channel League-Pacific View League tournament game.

Brad Boyer had two hits and Todd Barlow had a double for Camarillo (11-4).

Santa Barbara 3, Oxnard 1--Matt Merricks had 11 strikeouts and singled twice for Oxnard (6-3) in a Channel League-Pacific View League tournament game at Santa Barbara.

El Camino Real 8, Cleveland 5--Jason Kort had a triple, double and single, and drove in two runs, and Sean Thomas had two hits, including a home run, for the Conquistadores (10-2, 5-0) in a West Valley League victory at El Camino Real.

Kennedy 3, Sylmar 0--Danny Mata pitched a three-hitter and Juan Sepulveda had three hits to help Kennedy (7-7-1, 3-2) upset Valley Mission League-leader Sylmar (8-4, 4-1) at Kennedy.

Jon McKim hit a home run and Noe Medina had a two-run single in the fourth inning. Mata struck out six and walked four.

San Fernando 8, Monroe 4--Abraham Gonzalez had nine strikeouts and Jose Montes had a triple, three RBIs and two runs for the Tigers (6-6, 4-1) in a Valley Mission League victory at San Fernando.

Van Nuys 23, Reseda 7--Alfredo Avila had eight strikeouts and Juan Romo hit a three-run home run to highlight a 14-run sixth inning for Van Nuys (5-9, 2-3) in a Valley Mission League game at Reseda.

Birmingham 11, Taft 3--Junior left-hander Neil Morrow (3-1) had eight strikeouts and pitched his second complete game in a West Valley League game at Birmingham.

Rosalio Garcia had four hits and drove in three runs, and Lucio Tapia had three hits and drove in four runs for Birmingham (6-6, 1-4).

Lancaster 8, Paraclete 5--Ryan Jefferson hit two two-run home runs for the visiting Eagles (9-4) in a nonleague victory.
