Seventh Unlucky Inning for Titans as LMU Rolls

Loyola Marymount scored six runs in the seventh inning and pulled away to defeat Cal State Fullerton, 11-2, in baseball Tuesday at Loyola Marymount.

The Titans (21-11) had scored a run in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to 4-1, but the Lions answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning, including two on a home run by David Maffei. It was the Titans first loss at Loyola since 1992.

Fullerton (21-11) was held scoreless through 6 2/3 innings by Justin Abreu, who was making his first college start.

David Bacani’s RBI single scored Jason Corapci, who reached on a throwing error and helped the Titans avoid the shutout.

Ronnie Corona (0-3) took the loss after going four innings and allowing four runs, all earned, on five hits.

George Carralejo couldn’t get out of the seventh inning, giving up five earned runs on five hits.

Fullerton resumes Big West Conference play Friday night when they host Long Beach State.

In another nonconference game:

La Verne 15, Chapman 10--Trek Davis, Aaron Hill and Nick Cordova each had three RBIs to lead La Verne at Chapman.

Eric Albright hit a two-run homer and shortstop Bobby Calderon had two RBIs in a losing effort.

Davis, Cordova, Hill and Nathan Devine each homered for La Verne (17-10-1).
