Lupacchini Walks Away From Perfection, 3-0
Christina Lupacchini was nearly perfect on Wednesday.
Chaminade High’s sophomore right-hander retired the first 22 batters and finished with an eight-inning no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over host Alemany in a Mission League game.
Lupacchini (3-5) struck out 10 and allowed only a one-out walk to Courtney Carr in the eighth inning.
Lindsey Weinstein, Shannon Barceloux and Lupacchini each had two hits for the Eagles (4-6, 3-0 in league play), who won their 23rd consecutive league game.
Weinstein scored the first run in the eighth on a throwing error and the Eagles added two unearned runs.
It’s been a disappointing week for Alemany (8-8, 3-2), which was alone in first place but committed eight errors in a 9-0 loss to Harvard-Westlake on Monday and six errors against Chaminade.
Harvard-Westlake 4, Flintridge Sacred-Heart 3--Anna Russell’s single scored Lisa Feigenbaum from second with two out in the top of the eighth and the Wolverines (11-2, 3-0) won a Mission League game at Glendale Sports Complex.
All-Valley player Elena Ferrero, who had been out since March 11 with a knee injury, pitched a four-hitter and had two hits.
Notre Dame 12, Louisville 1--Veronica Arredondo had a double, triple and three runs batted in for the Knights (4-8, 2-2) in a Mission League victory at Tarzana Park.
El Camino Real 9, Taft 0--Melissa Coogan pitched a one-hitter, striking out 12 and walking none for the Conquistadores (14-2-1, 6-0) in a West Valley League victory at Shoup Park.
El Camino Real had 19 hits, including four by Fiona Landers.
Catie Goldblatt and Jacqui Goodchild each added three hits.
Coogan faced 22 batters, one over the minimum.
Danielle McMullen singled in the third for Taft.
Cleveland 3, Granada Hills 1--Angie Veliz hit a two-run triple to highlight a three-run fourth for the Cavaliers in a West Valley League game at Cleveland.
Sarah Johnson had two hits for Cleveland (11-6, 4-2).
Chatsworth 8, Birmingham 4--Rebecca McIntire had two hits with two RBIs and the Chancellors (11-9, 4-2) won a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.
McIntire and Cassie Shires each homered for Chatsworth.
