If Angels Get Tangled Up, Try Web

The Lakers play tonight, so you can’t hear the Angels on KLAC (570 AM). And, with the NBA playoffs starting next week, the Lakers will displace the Angels from their radio home on a regular basis in the coming weeks.

One solution if you’re an Angel fan: Turn on your computer.

On nights when the Lakers bump the Angels from KLAC, the Angels can be heard on KIK (94.3 FM) in Orange County and KMPC (1540) in Los Angeles. Listeners also can try the team’s Inland Empire affiliate, KIKA (1510).

However, fans have complained that the alternate stations do not cover all areas of Southern California. The Angels have responded by suggesting fans log on to the team’s Web site, angelsbaseball.com, and click on “listen live” to hear the radio broadcast on their computers.

“The Internet has become a huge extension of our broadcast,” Angel Vice President Bob Wagner said.

If your computer does not have the required audio software, a window should pop up that allows you to download the software for free. In trying to secure their systems against viruses, some businesses have installed filters that prevent such downloading on company computers.

The link only works during live broadcasts. Air times can be found daily on Page 2 of the Times sports section. Fans can refer questions to the Angels using the “Contact the Angels” link at the bottom of the home page.

The Angels switched from KRLA (1110) to KLAC last year, in large part because KRLA could not be heard in all of Orange County. The Angels believe the benefit of KLAC’s signal outweighs the inconvenience of spring preemptions for the Lakers, Wagner said.
