Casey Wilkinson
YEAR: Senior
SCHOOL: Royal
SPORT: Volleyball
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Wilkinson has been the steadiest player on the top-ranked team in the region. The 6-foot outside hitter leads Royal (13-1, 10-0 in Marmonte League play) in digs and can be counted on for four or five kills a game. “He’s good on the attack from the right and the left side,” Coach Bob Ferguson said. “He makes the big play when you need it.”
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Wilkinson had 22 kills and 20 digs in the Highlanders’ five-game victory last week over Loyola, which was ranked No. 2 in Southern Section Division I. Wilkinson also had 16 kills in a sweep of Moorpark for the Highlanders’ 87th consecutive league victory.

Porchea Carroll
YEAR: Junior
SCHOOL: Rio Mesa
SPORT: Track and field
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Carroll has run career bests of 11.60 in the 100 meters and 24.15 in the 200, and leaped 18-5 in the long jump.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Carroll won her second consecutive titles in the 100 (11.60) and long jump (18-4 1/2) in the Mt. San Antonio College Relays in Walnut on Saturday. She also placed fourth in the 200 in a wind-aided 24.16 and ran the first leg on the Spartans’ 400 relay team that won its heat in a season-best 48.36. Carroll’s time in the 100 was the fastest in the state this year, moved her to third on the yearly national performer list and to third on the all-time region list. “It was a good legal race,” Rio Mesa assistant Brian FitzGerald said of Carroll’s 100. “She didn’t have a lot of wind behind her.”
