The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Spartan catcher Junior Quintana hit a two-run home run to right off Sultana starter Joe Lucero. Villa Park (19-1), ranked No. 1 in the county and No. 2 in Division III, added five more runs in the sixth as Quintana, Ricky Simms, Sean Pritchett, Bryan Arguello and Scott Zine each had RBIs.

In the fifth inning, Sultana (13-7) threatened to score when a single by Wade Harris and an error by right fielder Scott Foley put runners on second and third with two outs. But Averill got Bryan Gernux to fly out to center.
