From Staff Reports

When the streak finally ended Tuesday, Meredith Cervenka received a standing ovation from the fans gathered at Montrose Park. Then she went back to work.

The Crescenta Valley High pitcher gave up an earned run for the first time in 40 games, a streak dating to last season and ending at a state-record 292 1/3 consecutive innings when Glendale’s Christine Rader singled home Mariga Torossian in the third inning.

Though touched by the fans’ gesture, Cervenka was unfazed by having her streak broken. The junior started another one by shutting out Glendale the rest of the way and finishing with a two-hitter in Crescenta Valley’s 2-1 Pacific League victory.
