Streaky Lancaster Beats San Bernardino

Juan Silvestre hit his 25th home run to help Lancaster defeat the San Bernardino Stampede, 13-8, on Friday night at the Hangar for its third consecutive victory after a six-game losing streak. Jeff Heaverlo (12-5) allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings for the JetHawks (30-12).

Erik Hiljus (Canyon) gave up a home run in 1 1/3 innings of relief for Toledo (Tigers) in a 6-1 loss to Columbus. His earned-run average is 3.19. . . . Bobby Hughes (Notre Dame) had two hits, including his fifth home run, for Buffalo (Indians) in a 6-4 loss to Syracuse. . . . Rob Crabtree (Cal State Northridge) gave up two hits and one run in three innings of relief to earn his fourth save for Fresno (Giants) in a 6-3 victory over Salt Lake. Double A--Angel Aragon (Channel Islands) gave up three hits and three runs, two earned, in 3 1/3 innings for Mobile (Padres) in an 8-5 loss to Birmingham. Aragon, who has a 5.12 ERA, did not have any strikeouts and did not figure in the decision.

Class A--Jorge Piedra (Notre Dame) had two hits and scored twice for Daytona (Reds) in a 5-1 victory over St. Petersburg in the first game of a doubleheader, then had two more hits, scored twice and drove in a run in an 8-7 victory in the second game. . . . Danny Phillips (Chatsworth, Northridge) had two hits, raising his average to .280, and scored a run for Asheville in a 7-4 loss to Savannah.

Short Season--Ryan Hamill (Chaminade) had four hits, including his 10th double, and drove in a run for Johnson City (Cardinals) in a 3-2 loss to Kingsport. Hamill raised his average to .269.
