Laguna Hills Wins in Overtime; Brown Gets 500th Victory

Coach Dave Brown recorded the 500th victory of his career as Laguna Hills held off Dana Hills to win, 40-38, in overtime in nonleague boys’ basketball.

Jimmy Vollenhals led Laguna Hills (4-1) with 13 points, while Travis Nelson scored a game-high 18 points for Dana Hills (2-3).

Dana Hills almost made Brown wait another game for victory No. 500, outscoring the Hawks, 17-11, in the second half to send the game to overtime. But Laguna Hills outscored the Dolphins, 8-6, in overtime to secure Brown’s milestone win.

Brown is in his 32nd year of coaching. He has spent the last 12 years at Laguna Hills and has previously coached at Fountain Valley. Laguna Hills finished 17-11 last year.
