No. 2 Mater Dei 1, Newport Harbor 1--Donald Cadena scored for the Monarchs (5-0-1), who received five saves from Nate Pena.

No. 8 Fountain Valley 1, No. 4 Santa Margarita 0--Sean Iliff scored the lone goal from 20 yards out in the 15th minute from Drew Tolman to give host Fountain Valley (2-1-2) the upset win. Baron goaltender Kyle Polak made seven saves in his second shutout of the season. Erick Foss had five saves for Santa Margarita (4-1).

In the La Quinta Aztec boys’ basketball tournament:

Irvine 59, Santa Ana 56 (OT)--Irvine guard Massud Naderi’s three-pointer with five seconds remaining sent the game into overtime and Jontel Carter made three of four free throws in overtime to lift the Vaqueros (2-1).

In the Ocean View Tournament of Champions

No. 1 Mater Dei 87, Gardena Junipero Serra 36--Cedric Bozeman scored a game-high 30 points, Mike Strawberry added 11, Travis Delgado had 10 and Shaun Michel had six assists for the top-ranked Monarchs (3-0), who led by 29 at halftime. Mater Dei faces Pasadena in the semifinals Friday.

No. 4 Ocean View 65, Perris 51--Marques Crane scored 18 points and Torin Beeler had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Ocean View (3-0), which led, 22-8, after the first quarter and was never threatened.

In nonleague:

Mission Viejo 67, No. 8 Sonora 62--Travis Niesen had 19 points, Mykel Valentine 17 and Greg Villanueva 12 to lead visiting Mission Viejo (4-1) to the upset win.

Jake Trejo led Sonora (3-2) with 12 points.

In the Brea Olinda Ladycat girls’ basketball tournament:

Harbor City Narbonne 70, No. 8 Irvine 47--The Vaqueros (2-1) struggled from the outset, falling behind, 38-14, at intermission. Junior forward Kristin Thawley paced Irvine with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Narbonne plays Brea in the semifinals Friday.

In the Troy NJB girls’ tournament:

No. 7 Huntington Beach 45, Capistrano Valley 32--Junior guard Amy Sanders had 20 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in the semifinal game. Lauren Murray had eight points and 10 rebounds and Amy Shaw scored nine points for the Oilers (3-0).
