HIGH SCHOOL NOTEBOOK
Seven players from Ventura’s Division IV championship football team are expected to make their basketball debuts for the Cougars this week, but record-setting running back Tyler Ebell won’t be among them.
Ebell, who rushed for a national-record 4,494 yards and 64 touchdowns this season, averaged a team-high 15 points for Ventura last season. But he isn’t expected to make his season debut until Jan. 3 against Channel Islands because he will play in a national all-star football game in Dallas on Dec. 30.
Ebell and football teammate Jason Gruber are expected to start for Ventura’s basketball team and Trevor Prophet is a potential starter.
Bryan Easterly, Ryan Aikens, Ryan Tanner, Jimmy Ikeda and Billy Griffin are other football players who will play varsity basketball.
