Wrestling Dual Events Open Saturday

The Southern Section dual meet wrestling championships begin Saturday with Orange County teams competing in Divisions I through IV.

Calvary Chapel will attempt to avenge last year’s loss to defending Division I dual-meet champion Temecula Valley.

The top-seeded Eagles, who are hosting the meet at Villa Park High, are led by Adam Bones (145 pounds) and Steve Esparza (125). Four other Orange County teams are competing, including third-seeded Villa Park, which faces Valencia in the first round, and El Modena, which faces Magnolia.

Covina Northview hosts the Division II competition, where second-seeded Santa Ana will try to defend its title. The Saints open against Montebello Schurr. Other first-round matches are Riverside Norte Vista vs. Mission Viejo, Saddleback vs. Diamond Bar, Irvine vs. Alhambra, third-seeded Laguna Hills vs. La Verne Damien and Dana Hills vs. Temescal Canyon.

Loara, led by Orlando Galvan (103) and Josh Galvan (112), will try for its second consecutive Division III title at Corona Centennial.

The Saxons face Coachella Valley in the first round. Also competing are Esperanza and El Dorado.

Top-seeded Bellflower St. John Bosco hosts the Division IV meet and faces Pacific Coast League champion University in the first round. Santiago will face Glendora.

Competition starts at 11 a.m. at all four locations.
