The Sylmar girls’ team anticipates getting a boost from Stephanie Cisneros, a 5-9 junior forward who was expected to join the Spartans this week.

Cisneros, a volleyball standout, was a top player on the junior varsity basketball team as a freshman.

Choosing to concentrate on club volleyball, Cisneros did not play basketball last year and wasn’t expected to play this season.

But she contacted Coach Cody Carter last week about joining the team. Carter said Cisneros was to begin practicing Monday and could play in her first game Wednesday.

Cisneros’ addition should help Sylmar (5-10), which has lost several players for various reasons.
