Workman’s Goal Lifts Buena Over Dos Pueblos, 2-1

Brad Workman’s goal in the 45th minute lifted Buena High to a 2-1 victory over Dos Pueblos in a Channel League boys’ soccer game Thursday at Dos Pueblos.

Chris Parkin assisted on the game-winner for the Bulldogs (11-4-2, 1-0-1), ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times.

Rio Mesa 4, Hueneme 0--Jimmy Heathcote and Chris High each scored twice for the Spartans (9-8-1, 4-1-1) in a Pacific View League game at Rio Mesa. Hueneme is 5-7-2, 2-2-1.

Heathcote has a team-high nine goals for Rio Mesa, which is 8-2-1 in its last 11 games.

Hoover 3, Pasadena 2--Alpin Nazaryan followed his own missed shot with a goal in the 65th minute to give the Tornadoes (5-6-4, 1-2) a Pacific League victory at Pasadena.

Teo Shahoomian and Eddy Toapanta also scored for Hoover. All five goals were scored in the second half.

Village Christian 4, Kilpatrick 2--Freddie Magana scored twice for the Crusaders (8-1-1, 2-0) in an Alpha League victory at Village Christian.

Steven Herman and Al Quintana also scored for Village Christian, and Daryl Ellis had two assists. Crispin Espinoza scored both goals for Kilpatrick.

Paraclete 5, L.A. Baptist 2--Paul Watts scored two goals for the Spirits (7-2-2, 1-0-1) in an Alpha League victory at the Lancaster Soccer Complex.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Rio Mesa 5, Hueneme 0--Natalya Dergan had three goals and two assists for the Spartans (8-6-1, 5-0-1) in a Pacific View League victory at Hueneme.

Oxnard 2, Channel Islands 1--Sabrina Ball scored on an assist from Ruth Valenzuela with two minutes remaining, lifting the Yellowjackets in a Pacific View League game at Channel Islands.

Valenzuela also scored for Oxnard (2-2-2 in league play).

Quartz Hill 4, Palmdale 0--Karen Comstock made three saves in her second Golden league shutout for visiting Quartz Hill (12-1, 3-0).

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Harvard-Westlake 22, Notre Dame 3--Rachel Burkons scored seven goals and Jeanine Jackson added six for the No. 2-ranked Wolverines (14-2, 4-0) in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.
