Several girls’ teams are using the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend to play intriguing intersectional games.

On Saturday, Alemany travels to the Bay Area to face defending state Division III champion Lafayette Acalanes at Campolindo High in Moraga.

Acalanes, ranked No. 3 in the state, defeated Harvard-Westlake last season in the state final. Alemany is ranked No. 1 among state Division III schools.

Senior post player Rolake Bamgbose of Harvard-Westlake, who has not played this season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament, visited a doctor earlier this week and was told she might be ready to return late in February.

That would mean the Wolverines would have to make it deep into the Division III playoffs.

“It’s good news to me, though,” she said. “It’s better than being told I can’t come back.”

Still, if Bamgbose returns, she likely will be far from the form that she showed as a junior, when she averaged 9.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.1 blocked shots.
