Kennedy Gets a Shot in Arm From Douglas

Vennetta Douglas made a jumper with four seconds left and Kennedy High rallied from a 13-point deficit and defeated Monroe, 44-43, in a Valley Mission League girls’ basketball game at Kennedy on Friday.

Douglas finished with 10 points, including seven in the second half. Linnae Barber added 12 points and five steals, and Jevay Grooms had 10 points and 15 rebounds for Kennedy (8-6, 2-0).

Shakaria Jones had 12 points and seven assists, and Camie Wiltshire had six points, 14 rebounds and nine blocked shots for the Vikings (11-6 1-1).

Grant 69, Canoga Park 36--Leslie Mui scored 12 of her 24 points on three-point baskets for the Lancers in a Sunset Six League victory over Canoga Park (8-7) at Grant.

Alexis Weatherspoon added 18 points for Grant (11-6, 2-0), which outscored Canoga Park, 27-5, in the second quarter when Weatherspoon had eight points. Mui and Deja Cruz each had seven in that span.

North Hollywood 71, Verdugo Hills 45--Richelle Sherman had 29 points and 16 rebounds in a Sunset Six League victory at Verdugo Hills.

Kaipresha Price did not play for North Hollywood (11-6, 2-0) because she attended her mother’s wedding.

El Camino Real 38, Birmingham 25--Christina Aguinaga had 16 points, and Karen Shun added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Conquistadors (11-5, 2-0) in a West Valley League game at El Camino Real.

Chatsworth 63, Cleveland 28--Liz Sun scored 22 points for the Chancellors (11-4, 2-0) in a West Valley League victory at Cleveland.

Glendale 52, Crescenta Valley 43--Hilary Driffill had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Aneka Hartounian scored 15 points for the Dynamiters (10-8, 1-2) in a Pacific League game at Crescenta Valley.

Sinnamonn Garrett of Crescenta Valley (11-7, 1-2) scored 20 points.

Paraclete 54, Village Christian 47--Jackie Kolesar scored 22 points, and Missy Pagan had 12 points and seven steals for the Spirits (12-5, 3-0) in an Alpha League victory at Village Christian.

Valencia 42, Hart 27--Megan Honaker scored 13 points, and Marissa Meadows had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Vikings (11-6, 3-0) in a Foothill League victory at Hart.

Moorpark 46, Agoura 35--Kristen Nadas collected 16 points, nine rebounds and four steals for the Musketeers (11-7, 3-2) in a Marmonte League victory at Agoura.

Jennifer Lacy had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Chargers.

La Canada 59, South Pasadena 39--Courtney Adams had 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Spartans (13-5, 3-0) in a Rio Hondo League victory at South Pasadena.
