Honaker Finishes Canyon, 54-51

Megan Honaker scored seven points in the final three minutes and Valencia High came from behind to defeat Canyon, 54-51, in a Foothill League girls’ basketball game Tuesday night at Valencia.

The Vikings trailed, 49-42, with 3:07 to play when Honaker hit a three-pointer, a 10-foot turnaround shot and two free throws after taking a charge.

Honaker finished with 10 points for Valencia (12-6, 4-0 in league play), which outscored Canyon down the stretch, 12-2.

Valerie Pina led Valencia with 12 points.

Katie Holdaway had 14 points and 18 rebounds for Canyon (7-13, 2-2).

Buena 65, Santa Barbara 53--Kelly Greathouse scored 22 points and the Bulldogs, who trailed for most of the game, finally awoke in the fourth quarter of a Channel League game at Santa Barbara.

Buena (15-4, 3-0), ranked No. 2 in the region by The Times, surrendered only three fourth-quarter points to Santa Barbara (12-7, 1-2).

The game marked the 599th career victory for Coach Joe Vaughan, who is in his 25th year at Buena.

The Bulldogs also extended their league winning streak to 69 games.

Oxnard 66, Hueneme 36--Memory Rhone scored 16 points, including six in the third quarter to break open a Pacific View League game at Oxnard.

Tiffany Walker added nine points for the Yellowjackets (15-5, 4-0), ranked No. 6.

Oxnard led at halftime, 28-18, and outscored Hueneme in the third quarter, 18-10.

Pasadena 56, Crescenta Valley 50--The Falcons blew a nine-point lead with six minutes to play and lost for the third time in four Pacific League games at Crescenta Valley.

Sinnamonn Garrett scored 17 points and Laura Zerebko had 12 for defending Pacific League co-champion Crescenta Valley (11-8), which fell three games behind Pasadena and Muir, who are tied for the league lead.

Burroughs 52, Burbank 41--Jodi Gibbs scored eight points in the second quarter to spark the Indians in a Foothill League victory at Burroughs.

Gibbs finished with 11 points for Burroughs, which outscored Burbank in the second quarter, 18-6, and held a 35-18 halftime lead.

Gracie Coronado had 14 points and five steals for Burroughs (15-5, 3-1).

Muir 70, Hoover 43--Tenie Hartounian scored 21 points for the Tornadoes (7-12, 1-3) in a Pacific League setback at Muir.

Montclair Prep 57, Crossroads 30--Eshaya Murphy had 22 points and 19 rebounds, and Jasmine Wesley added 14 points and 17 rebounds as the Mounties (14-4, 2-2) avenged a 30-point loss last year in a Delphic League game at Montclair Prep.

Faith Baptist 71, First Lutheran 18--Rose Sierra had 15 points, 16 steals and 15 assists--her second consecutive triple double--for the Contenders (10-3, 3-0) in a Heritage League victory at First Lutheran.
