Wilson Rallies Past Los Alamitos

Long Beach Wilson, ranked second in the Southern Section Division I, fell behind early to unranked Los Alamitos before rallying to win, 8-4, in a nonleague girls’ water polo game Tuesday at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.

Cassie Azevedo and Brennan Hogan each scored three goals for the Bruins, who took control of the game by outscoring Los Alamitos, 3-0, in the second quarter.

Susie Lewis, who had two goals, and Drue Wawrzynski each scored first-quarter goals to help the visiting Griffins (9-7) take a 2-1 lead in the second quarter. Freshman goalie Megan Carey had 12 saves for Los Alamitos.

In other nonleague games:

No. 10 Rosary 9, Long Beach Poly 2--Natalie Golda scored six goals, giving her 70 this season, for visiting Rosary (11-4), ranked 10th in Orange County.

Canyon 23, Estancia 4--Christine McDonald scored four goals for visiting Canyon (12-3).

El Modena 9, Dana Hills 1--Gaby Garcia had four goals, two steals and two assists and Shannon Huntress had three fourth-quarter goals for visiting El Modena (12-8).

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 14, Western 0--The host Wildcats (11-11, 4-0) strengthened their hold on first place in league, scoring nine goals in the first quarter.

In the Century League:

No. 2 Foothill 17, Santa Ana Valley 1--Daylene Coberly scored five goals and Brittany Hayes had four goals, playing in only one half, for Foothill (12-4, 2-0).

No. 3 Villa Park 22, Orange 1--Shari Meyer had six goals, including four in a nine-goal first quarter, for Villa Park (14-4, 2-0).

In Express League boys’ basketball:

Heritage Christian 36, Rolling Hills Prep 34--Matt Winter made a 15-footer with nine seconds remaining, then stole the inbound pass to seal the victory for Heritage Christian (17-4, 8-0), ranked second in Southern Section Division V-A. Rolling Hills Prep (7-10, 6-2) is ranked eighth.

In Academy League boys’ soccer:

Fairmont 2, Southern California Christian 1--Steven Park scored the game-winning goal in the 67th minute off a rebound for Fairmont (4-2-1, 3-1). SCC is 0-12, 0-4.

In Empire League girls’ soccer:

Loara 3, Katella 0--Chiara Leroy had a goal and two assists for Loara (15-3-1, 4-1-1), which pushed its unbeaten streak to seven.

In the South Coast League:

No. 8 Mission Viejo 2, Dana Hills 0--Junior Kendal Billingsley scored two goals for visiting Mission Viejo (14-4-1, 3-3).

Goaltender Katie Shields had 11 saves for Dana Hills (5-12, 0-6).

Postponements--Several games were postponed because of rain, most notably the South Coast League game between top-ranked Capistrano Valley and fifth-ranked San Clemente. The game has been rescheduled for 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 7 at Capistrano Valley. The El Toro-Trabuco Hills game has been rescheduled to 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at Trabuco Hills.

Western’s game at Brea Olinda was postponed but no makeup date has been set.
