* Brooke Borisoff of Agoura Hills defended her Quiksilver/Roxy Junior Open girls’ 16 division title with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Lindsey Nelson of Orange at Los Caballeros Racquet Club in Costa Mesa on Wednesday.
Nelson, an eighth-grader who won the girls’ 14 title last year, took a 2-0 lead in the first set before Borisoff, 16, broke back after battling through six deuces.
They continued to break each other’s serve until Borisoff held to take a 5-3 lead. With Borisoff leading, 40-15, in the final game, Nelson rallied to deuce, but two straight errors ended the set.
Borisoff never trailed in the second set. She took a 3-0 lead, before Nelson came back and won the next three games. But Borisoff began to dominate and quickly closed out the match.
“I played pretty well,” Borisoff said. “I started really bad, but I got it together.”
In boys’ 16s, Derek Bauer of Ojai defeated Andrew Lieu of Thousand Oaks, 6-4, 6-1.
In girls’ 12s, top-seeded Cosima Ciobanu of Brea defeated Jessica Nguyen of Chatsworth, 6-4, 6-2.
