There May Be ‘Room’ for Criticism

Thanks for your article “Cause Celeb” [June 7]. It served as a reminder as to why I have always hated the Lakers. Typical L.A., the more support you can get from the “celebrity” crowd the more righteous your cause (team) must be!

I don’t know why Indiana would even bother, knowing that the Lakers have Pamela Anderson in the crowd, and the Pacers have nobody. Thank you for reaffirming the shallowness of good old L.A.

Why don’t all the actors (except for Jack and Dyan), who conveniently show up for big Laker games that just happen to be nationally televised, go home and watch the games on their big-screen TVs and leave the seats for real fans?

So Denzel, Jim, Ed, Salma and Pamela are suddenly Laker fans, huh? Looked to me like Denzel was practicing his Hurricane Carter one-two combination, Jim Carrey was doing his usual obnoxious shtick, Ed and Salma were totally lost and Pamela was fending off a proposition. Sounds to me like they and their Hollywood hangers-on are trying to ride the winning wave of the Lakers these days. Tell them all to take a hike.

Bet you these 2000 Johnny-come-latelies can’t even name the starting lineup of the 1971-72 first [L.A.] Laker championship team, let alone the starting lineup of the last championship team in ‘87-88. Do they even realize how the Lakers got their name?

Congratulations. You have reached your epitome of crude, offensive and unrefined sports page stories.

Where does the average, hard-working regular person fit in?

If self-anointed VIP Fran Drescher can get into “The Room,” how special can it really be?
